Hebburn Town 2, Marske United 3
MARSKE United managed to beat the fuel crisis and travelled to Hebburn for this Albany League Cup tie. Their efforts were rewarded with a 3-2 win.
The seasiders had an early setback when Archie Moors, making his first appearance this season, spilled the ball. As he tried to retrieve the situation the keeper brought down Marsen. Laidler stepped up to score from the spot.
United applied pressure and after a series of corners from Simon Kasonali a touch from John Woods forced the ball in to bring the teams level.
The game flowed from end to end with Darren Sankey going close for United and Henderson for Town.
The start of the second period was delayed due to a floodlight failure but when play resumed United looked the more dangerous side. Woods and Sankey both brought saves from home keeper Rogers before United took the lead after 57 minutes through a diving header by Neil Hodgson.
The seasiders were in control for a spell but spirited Hebburn hit back and were awarded a penalty when Jason Mellon blocked an effort Attwell on the line. Moore, however, guessed right and saved Laidler penalty kick.
A fierce effort from Kasonali was well saved by Rogers, but Woodhouse followed in to make it 3-1.
Hebburn pushed forward and pulled a goal back in injury time, but United went through to meet Horden in the next round.
Thornaby 0, Marske
United 1
A SUPERB goal by Neil Hodgson was enough to send Marske United into the next round of the FA Cup after this win over Thornaby.
United soon took control of the game and Stuart Neilson set up Hodgson, whose shot was well saved by Woolnough. Hodgson again latched onto a good ball but this time he delayed his effort and the chance was gone.
Thornaby threatened through Novall but was held by Gary Knight. When United broke away Sankey set up Steve Hampton but was unable to make good contact. United eventually broke through John Woods, splitting the home defence with a superb pass to allow Hodgson to tuck the ball away.
The second period was largely fought out in midfield with few chances on goal until the dismissal of United skipper Michael Kinnair who was adjudged to be the last man when Woodhouse went down.
United now travel to Bamber Bridge from the Unibond League Premier Division on September 30
