SOUTH Durham Saddle Club rounded off a successful season in style at the British Riding Club's National Championships at Malvern this month.
Five teams and two individual members qualified this year and Steven Wright on Baboushka was runner-up in the show jumping, beaten by just one-sixth of a second in a very fast jump off.
In the dressage, Greer Smith on Amberetta was second in the riding test and third in the prelim. Helen Sanderson, riding Tiger Lily, was eighth in the medium dressage and the club was eighth out of 25 teams in the open show jumping.
For the past 20 years Fred and Mary Grieves of Dovecote Farm, Elwick, have helped the club with its fundraising activities and this year they decided to retire.
On October 5, the club will take over the mantle of fundraising with a winter series which starts at Dalton Piercey.
Winter series dressage starts on the weekend of October 7, with the seniors on Saturday. It is open to everyone.
