SUTTON Bank is to be closed to traffic for up to five days next month to allow engineers to carry out an inspection of the rock face and necessary maintenance work.
The work to the bank near Thirsk will be carried out between Monday and Friday, October 2 to 6, with the road remaining closed 24 hours a day.
During the closure any loose material will be removed and the existing cats eyes and road markings replaced. The opportunity will also be taken to replace and supplement various warning signs on the bank.
Mr Mike Moore, North Yorkshire's head of environmental services, said: "We can only apologise to motorists in advance of the work being carried out, but the inspection and other works are vital."
He added that the work was scheduled to be carried out now so it was completed before the worst of the winter weather, but warned that the closure dates could change at short notice due to the weather.
Large notices warning motorists of the road closure will be posted on the Bank in the days before work begins and an alternative route will be sign posted.
