A CHILDREN'S cancer charity in the North-East is looking for volunteers to throw themselves off a bridge - and raise funds at the same time.
The Redcar-based Katie Trust is holding the Seil of the Century - a sponsored abseil from the Gateshead end of the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle on Sunday, November 19.
There are 120 places available on the abseil which is open to anyone aged between ten and 60, with an entry fee of £5.
All proceeds from the event will go towards the funding of a new post created by the Katie Trust at the Regional Cancer Research Unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in New- castle.
The trust was launched in memory of Redcar schoolgirl Katie Neal who died last year at the age of six following a long and courageous battle against a medulloblastoma brain tumour.
The post will research new ways of treating these tumours and will take the form of a three-year PhD student study to work on the unit's existing project.
The post will cost £50,000 to fund, and in just six months the Katie Trust has raised more than £29,000 towards it.
Anyone wanting further details or application forms for the abseil can contact Trust chairman Martin Neal on (01642) 477098.
