Acklam Steelworks, beaten in the final of the MacMillan Bowl last season, suffered a first-round exit, beaten 2-1 at home by Thornaby.
Acklam took a 30th-minute lead through Alan Oliver. Thornaby, playing good, attractive football, levelled a minute before half time when Wayne Mahoney set up Darren Fixter.
In the second half the visitors were the livlier side and only the performance of Acklam keeper Simon Bishop kept them at bay. Thornaby deservedly took the lead after 70 minutes through Robert Shaw to secure a home match in the next round against Hollybush United who ironically beat Thornaby 3-1 the previous Saturday.
New Marske Sports Club, who had to play an extra preliminary round against Guisborough Town, to reach the first round proper, matched visitors Carlin How who edged to a 3-2 victory.
Both teams struck the woodwork and New Marske keeper Andy Beesley pulled off a great save, as did his counterpart Mark Harkin end. Carlin How took a 33rd-minute lead, keeper Beesley making a good stop at Martin Say's feet but the ball broke clear and Say slipped it home.
Two minutes later, with New Marske appealing for offside, Jonathan Best broke clear to give Carlin How a two-goal lead. Eight minutes into the second half the pressure of the home side finely reaped rewards when Greg Booth scored on the volley. Although the home side pressed forward all their effort was undone in the 73rd minute when a mistake in the New Marske defence allowed Best to score his second. The last 10 minutes were quite hectic but Carlin How held on to gain a second round match away to Mackinlay Park.
Mackinlay Park, despite being reduced to 10 men early in the game, gained a 3-2 away win over Wolviston Reserves. Jonathan Webb was sent packing for swearing at the referee after only eight minutes. However, Mackinlay Park took a 15th-minute lead through Bramwell.
Wolviston drew level a minute later through Anthony Woods and took the lead through Andrew Clark in the 20 minute. Five minutes into the second half Mackinlay Park levelled when Dean Chapman scored. On the hour the visitors took the lead for a second time through Mark Chapman. The home side pushed forward and had the chances to pull level but Michael Beech in the Mackinlay Park goal pulled off some good saves to secure his team a second round match against Carlin How.

Five minutes into the second half Hall, who hadn't found the net before the game, completed a hat- trick. Duncan Marson then made it 5-2 on the hour with Malcolm Kennott scoring in the 75th minute to secure a welcome win.
In an eight-goal game, Cargo Fleet gained a 5-3 home win against Stokesley SC. Seven minutes later Edwards and Paul Jewitt combined to see Michael Crowe head a third. Five minutes later Pain completed a hat-trick. Ten minutes into the second half Teasdale and Jewitt set up Pain to score his fourth of the game and seventh of the season. Fleet sat and made a number of substitutions.
They were made to pay because in the 70th minute Craig Hutton scored for visitors and five minutes later Phil Rowling pulled back another goal from the penalty spot. Five minutes from time, Chris Croce added a third. The visitors then had to withstand a last five minute push from Stokesley but were well worth the win, lifting them into second place, a point behind Acklam and two ahead of Grangetown, all having played eight matches.
BEADS have parted company with manager Terry Raynor and could well make a new appointment over the weekend.
But they maintained improved start after poor early season form, winning 3-0 at Guisborough Town Reserves. BEADS, with a third successive league and cup success, went ahead on 40 minutes through Martin McKenna, the goal scoring hero of the previous week shock win over Nunthorpe in the MacMillan Bowl. In the second half, the home side found themselves 2-0 behind in the 70th minute when Jonathan Smith scored. Seven minutes from time, the welcome three points were secured when Smith struck again.
Champions Grangetown BC crashed 4-0 at Hollybush United. The home side took a tenth minute lead when Steve Thornton crossed for Mark Thompson to volley home. Two minutes later the match was in the bag for the home side when Smith scored his second and in the 73rd minute Smith grabbed his hat trick against a despondent Grangetown.
Nunthorpe Athletic gained a runaway win over Whitby Town Reserves, emerging 7-1 victors. After the first half-hour of a very even contest, Nunthorpe took the load through Lee Doughty. Three minutes before half-time Phil Pinkney made it 2-0, a little harsh on Whitby. But in the second half ran away with the game. Nunthorpe added a third in the 70th minute through Gary Doughty . Eight minutes later Hyde got a fourth. This disheartened the visitors and in the 84 minute Pinkney grabbed his second of the game and Hyde then completed a hat-trick in the 87th minute. Simon Anderson pulled a goal back a minute later before Doughty grabbed his second of the game.
In the midweek Whitby derby a good crowd turned out to watch Whitby Town Reserves take on Fishburn Park under the lights at the Turnbull Ground, the match ending 2-2.
The visitors pushed forward from the kick off but were unable to beat Stewart Dawson in the Whitby goal making his way back from injury. The home side took the lead after 35 minutes when Andrew Watson scored. The same player then gave the home side a 2-0 lead two minutes before half time.
In the second half, Fishburn pushed forward and were rewarded when Man of the Match and former Whitby Town player John Smith pulled it back to 2-1 in the 68th minute. Seven minutes later the match was all square when Jimmy Simpson, another former Whitby player, scored to level the game and give the teams a share of the spoils.

With 17-year-old Michael Lane outstanding in goal for the home side, Stokesley rarely looked threatened and were well on their way to victory at half time, thanks to a Michael Bulmer hat-trick.
In the second half Sean Brown turned on the style to match Bulmer's efforts with yet another hat-trick.
New boys Teesside Athletic made it 14 goals without reply in two games when they beat Middlesbrough Post Office 4-0.
The game was evenly balanced until well into the second half when Athletic went in front through Michael Yuill. The home side's trump card, however, was the substitution that brought Chris Ellis onto the field of play. Within 15 minutes Ellis had wrapped up the points with a quick fire hat-trick that secured his side's second win of the season.
The derby between Boosbeck Melbourne Tyres and Lingdale FC was a close-fought affair with the sides producing eight goals between them in a 4-4 draw.

Ennis Square were another side to remain unbeaten until last weekend when they went down 6-2 to Dormans Athletic.
