Tow Law Bass League
SUNNISIDE COMEDIAN made a good away victory over Esh McKennas by three points but it looked likely to be more until the home side took the final two doubles. The Comedian took both trebles points and then had singles wins from Christine Marley, Jeff Ridley, Jean Wright and Raymond Wright, while Brian Jones and Alan Todd took points for McKennas.
Jeff Sneath of Billy Row Club hit two maximums and 140 with teammates, Adam Trotter adding two 140s and George Dodd 140, while Gerrard Beveridge hit a maximum for the Moss Inn and Malcolm Boughey 140 for the Cattle Mart.
Billy Row Club lead the table by one point from Esh Stag's Head. Tow Law New Market A are third, six points behind the Stag's but three ahead of Esh FC, who have a match in hand. All these four teams are unbeaten this season.

Bass Ladies League
Crook Queen's Head turned the tables on leaders, Croft Social Club B when they took revenge for the defeat in the first match of the season, winning by three points. This cut the Croft B's lead at the top to four points.
The leading individual scorers for the week were Claire Batey 121 and Caroline Turnbull 101 for Sunnydene Lodge, Judith Boughey 112 for Croft B and Jackie Hutchinson 106 for the Queen's Head.
In the captain's games Croft B beat the Queen's Head and Croft A made it a double when they beat Sunnydene Lodge.

Willington League
The Victoria Club were the team of the week after they maintained their 100 per cent record when they only dropped one point to the visiting Willington Lion and Unicorn. This left the Victoria six points adrift of the leaders, Willington Burn, who have played an extra match. Willington Cottles share the second place with the Victoria.
The only player to hit a maximum was Alan Scott of Willington Black Horse Tavern.

Crook Coach and Horses only dropped one point on their visit to Howden Australian to move thirty points clear at the top with less than a third of the season's programme completed. Tow Law New Market B and the Victoria Club share second place with the Market having a game in hand.
Norma Parkin of Crook Queen's Head hit the first maximum of the season. Other leading scorers were Olwyn Perkins 140 and Claire Blenkiron 125 for the Lion and Unicorn, Alison Miller 140 and Mary Maughan 119 for the New Market A, Karen Moses 140 and Ann Varley 125 for the Travellers Rest, Angela Flear 140 for the Cricket Club, Jean Wright 131 for the Green, Jacqueline Hope 127 for the Station, Angela Armstrong and Rachel Heppell 125 each for the Rose and Crown, Hazel Hogarth 123 for the Black Horse, Rose Moffat 121 for Belle Vue and Ann Adams 121 for the Australian.

Cleveland Men's Super League
Cleveland gained a 28-11 away win over Northamptonshire in Division Four of British Inter-Counties.
Jean Atkinson (15.94) was on first in the Ladies B game and was unlucky to lose 3-2. Barbara Bradley (13.54) won 3-0 to level the match but Cleveland lost the next two, with Sandra Reed (11.55) and Karen Helmore (16.49) both losing very close matches 3-2. Lady of the match, Rhonda Page (17.09), won 3-1 but then Pat A Smith (14.78) lost 3-0 giving Northants a 4-2 lead.
Brian Boulton (23.12) won 3-0 and Tim Burke (25.32) won 3-1 to put the Men's B two up. Mak Chahal (18.64) lost 3-1, but from then on everything went Cleveland's way. John Peoples (18.92) came back from two legs down to win 3-2. His average for the three winning legs was 27.83. Peter Nugent (21.66) won 3-1 while Terry Ferguson (22.10) making his county debut triumphed 3-0. Phil MacKay, another debut maker, (22.43) won 3-0 and Colin Johnson (22.43) won 3-1. Charlie Copeland (23.12) eased his way to a 3-0 success, making the score 8-1. Joe Nicholson (25.91) and on his county debut Ian Dawson (25.91) both won 3-0, Nicholson, in his 60s the oldest, and Dawson, at 18, the youngest in the team and to finish things off Carl Smith (22.46) won 3-1, giving Cleveland an 11-1 win and an overnight lead of 13-5.
Lady of the match Vee Page (20.31) won 3-0 but Mollie Pywell (12.90) couldn't get things going and lost 3-0, but then Jackie Allison (15.03) won 3-0, Babs Evans (18.04) won 3-1, Jean Hagan (16.70) won 3-0 and Pat J Smith (17.78) won 3-1 making a final score of 5-1 to Cleveland.
Ray Hutchinson (23.48) got the Men's A underway with a 3-0 but Neil Young (21.89) lost 3-0 and Chris Hornby (23.21) went down 3-1.
Man of the match Kenny Dobson (27.33) levelled martters when he won 3-0.
Cleveland took the lead when Mark Eccles (23.29) won 3-1 and increased the advantage when Paul Winspear (24.83) won 3-1.
Northants fought back to take the next two matches, levelling the score once more. Mark Muckian (26.41) lost 3-2 and Jimmy Dunlop (22.35) lost 3-1. Glen Durrant (23.61) won 3-2 but Gary Stephens (24.22) lost 3-2 after being two legs ahead, Simon Craven (25.32), on his return to Cleveland, won 3-2 and Mick Whittaker (26.31) won 3-0, giving Cleveland a 7-5 win in a see-saw struggle.
Other results: Isle of Wight 23, Gloucestershire 16;Montgomery and Radnor 23, Pembrokeshire 16; Tyne and Wear 26, Gwynedd 13. The Devon against Clwyd match was postponed.
