STOCKTON racing driver David Botterill finished sixth in the eleventh round of the Pirelli Porsche Classic Championship at Oulton Park at the weekend.
The penultimate race of the season took the drivers back to the challenging Cheshire circuit for the second visit of the season but the fuel crises had threatened to wreck the meeting.
However, everyone managed to get to the circuit and the result was an entertaining race.
Racing in his Porsche Carrera RS, Botterill qualified eighth fastest, but was relieved simply to have got to the circuit. David works in Belgium and had driven back to the UK during the petrol protests in Belgium.
"We've done a lot of work on the suspension recently and the car feels a lot better," he said.
Botterill battled through to sixth and almost took fifth from racing veteran Jon Fletcher of Lancashire however, he also had to defend his position from Colin Broster, Flintshire, who was less than half a second behind at the flag.
After the race Botterill said: "That was a good race, but I had a lot of trouble from Broster."
The Porsche Classic Championship is organised by the Porsche Club (GB) for all pre-1984 Porsches in close to standard trim, other than necessary safety modifications. The series is supported by Porsche Cars Great Britain and Pirelli Tyres Ltd. The championship will now conclude at Silverstone, Northants, on Sunday, October 1.
