Darlington Church and Friendly League
WITH Durham Minor Cup commitments and a couple of teams with travel difficulties because of the fuel shortage, the league programme was reduced to three fixtures.
Otter and Fish went to meet Tap and Spile and had to call on the services of secretary Fred King to make up the numbers and he proved a winner as they contained Tap to pick up all the points with a 2-0 victory, Darren Wray and Simon Middlemiss on taget for Otter and Fish.
For the second week running Peter Turnbull was on the mark with a spot kick as DGSOB got the better of Aidans 2-1, Graham Black scoring their second - his first for nearly three seasons. On the turnround Old Boys soaked up Aidans pressure, conceding a single from Simon Hullah.
In the remaining fixture Model T were given a second half shock. After leading Royal Mail 5-1 at the break they were punished for slack play as Mail fought back to 5-4 but the recovery rocked Model T and in the final ten minutes Richard Dodsworth hit a hat-trick, bringing his tally to five and a final score of 8-4. Callum Reilly, Nick Raine and a James Middleton free kick rounded off their scoring while Royal Mail's goals came from David Hubble 2, Kevin Stewart and Daniel Maddams.
In the Durham Minor Cup three of the eight drawn in this round won through, RAYouth ,Stillington The Royal and Chilton Wheatsheaf.
In mid-week there were wins for Tap and Spile, Busters, Hydro, Aidans and Aycliffe Saints while SCA and Wesley's end all square at 2-2.
