AN annual story-writing contest which attracts entries from across the region and further afield will this year take the theme of The Family.
The 14th Sid Chaplin Short Story Competition has been organised by Shildon Town Council, in conjunction with Durham County Council, commemorating the writer's life and links with the town.
The first prize is £300, with £150 for the second place entry and £75 for the writer who claims third. There will also be prizes for junior writers.
Leaflets detailing conditions of the competition are available from libraries, or from Shildon Town Council, Council Offices, Civic Hall Square, Shildon, County Durham, DL4 1AH, or by telephoning Judith Stafford on (01388) 772563
