WITH Christmas only three months away, that jovial gentleman in red - Father Christmas - dropped into a North-East high street to give hard-up mothers and fathers the timely reminder.
Though the leaves have not yet fallen from the trees, a shop selling nothing but Christmas cards and gifts opens in Danby Wynd, Yarm, today.
But the early festive fare will all be sold for a good cause. Every sale will be in aid of Teesside Hospice, which costs £2,000 a day to run, and Macmillan Home Care, a day centre and a counselling service for thousands of people.
The Teesside shop is hoping to raise £200,000-a-year towards the cost of caring for terminally ill local people, and there is a special offer of a free Christmas toy to the first 200 customers entering the shop
