ORGANISERS of the region's biggest dog show say continued bad weather could hold up repairs to the show field.
Stretches of South Park in Darlington were left badly churned up by heavy vehicles which had to plough through the mud during the recent Darlington Dog Show.
The event, the second biggest in the country, attracted about 3,000 visitors but left the popular park in a bad state of repair.
Show society chairwoman Maureen Hennis said: "We're putting it right with the help of the council, but unfortunately it cannot be done overnight.
"There was nothing we could do about the weather. It was a very unfortunate thing to happen. We've never had weather like we had on the Friday."
Show secretary Freda Marshall held a meeting with the council last week to discuss the aftermath of the show.
She said: "The matter is in hand. The parks department will be dealing with repairs to the showground as soon as possible.
"It's mainly surface damage which can easily be put right, but the way the weather's going at the moment it is going to take a while, I'm afraid."
