AN artist has recreated the scene of the first passenger train arriving in Stockton in 1825, to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway.
Stockton Borough Council's museums and heritage service asked Stockton-born Paul Duckers to produce a special commemorative print.
His piece, The First, which shows Locomotion No. 1 - the first steam locomotive on the world's first modern railway - at Stockton's riverside on September 27, 1825.
To mark the birthday of the railway, 175 print copies of The First have been signed by the artist and are on sale at Billingham Art Gallery, Green Dragon Museum, Stockton and Preston Hall Museum, Eaglescliffe, at £17.50.
Proceeds will help to fund an anniversary plaque for Stockton Town Hall, to be unveiled at 1pm tomorrow to mark the anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway
