VISITORS to a Spennymoor park are being invited to take the weight off their feet in a tribute to one of the town's former couples.
Madge and Tommy Harle had a great love of sitting in the window of their home, overlooking Jubilee Park, and watching the world go by.
But they moved to Florida, in the US, on their retirement, to be near their family and have since both died.
Madge was a bus conductress for OK Travel, while her husband was a factory worker.
Their granddaughter, Kerry Firth, who lives in Miami, Florida, wrote to Spennymoor Town Council last year asking if a bench in the park could be dedicated to the couple as a memorial, and the authority approved the idea.
The inscription on the bench reads: "In memory of Madge and Tommy Harle. Sit down, rest your feet and enjoy a good gossip, with love from their daughter and grandchildren.
