Crook Town were the first club to benefit from the Albany Northern League Cup's new golden goal rule when they beat Peterlee on Wednesday night.
The two teams were level 1-1 at the end of ninety minutes, with Carl White scoring for Peterlee, and Chris Baxter for Crook.
Extra time looked as if it would end in stalemate and then penalties, until Alan Jones got the winner with just a minute left, to give Crook their first win of the season.
There were goals galore in the other ties.
Billingham Town hammered Prudhoe 9-2, with all but one of the goals coming in the first half.
David Onions and Paul Rowntree both scored two apiece for Billingham by the 24th minute, and after Prudhoe pulled a goal back, Neil Preston (2), James Chapman and Rowntree made it 8-2 before half time. Eddie Hebron scored the ninth in a comparatively quiet second half.
Shotton thrashed Norton 8-2 at Station Road.
They went three goals up inside the first ten minutes, with Roy Allen (2) and David Christie on target. Allen went on to score five, with David Beeston and Paul Moss getting the others. Gary Alford replied with two for Norton, who had Paul Harrison sent off.
Consett put six past Eppleton at Belle Vue.

Alnwick caused a shock in the League Cup on Tuesday night by beating First Division Tow Law 4-3.
Alnwick gave themselves some breathing space with two goals inside five minutes before half time, through Jason Belisle and Darren Coxford, then Robert Cockburn scored from a long range free kick just after the break. Nigel Bolton pulled a goal back from the penalty spot, with Keith Moorhead adding a second.
However, Cockburn pounced to make it 4-2, with Scott Nicholson's last minute goal coming too late.
Northallerton gave Whitley Bay a scare before going out 4-3 at Hillheads. Dave McKinlay missed an early penalty for Northallerton, before Whitley's Marc Nash converted a spot kick at the other end after 22 minutes. McKinlay levelled with a half volley after 30 minutes, but Dennis Livermore put Whitley ahead following a mistake. Andy Bowman made it 3-1 from a Livermore cross after 64 minutes, but then Ed Daly pulled a goal back for Northallerton from six yards.
Adam Brown equalised with a shot from the edge of the box, but with extra time looming, Bowman scored the winner from a Gary Middleton cross.
The league cup tie between Chester-le-Street and Newcastle Blue Star, which was postponed in midweek because of Star's Vase commitments, has been re-arranged for this Saturday.

In the second division on Wednesday, Kennek Ryhope CA drew 2-2 with Evenwood.
The visitors took the lead through Stuart Murray and then Richard Hinton in the first fifteen minutes, but then Hinton was sent off for deliberate handball on the line, Phil Towers converting the penalty after 33 minutes. Towers equalised midway through the second half.
