PLANS to build a detached home in the centre of a North Yorkshire village have sparked 40 letters of protest and brought objections from the parish council.
Protests centre on an outline planning application to build a single-storey property at Broadlands, Main Street, Little Ouseburn, near York.
When Knaresborough area councillors of Harrogate Borough Council meet on Tuesday, planners are recommending refusal of the application, whichwas tabled by R J Addy and Sons.
The application is for a site behind the Old Cottage and next to Broadlands, off Main Street.
In their letters, residents raise a number of concerns, ranging from adverse impact on the conservation area to development effects on the Old Cottage.
Little Ouseburn Parish Council claims development is not within the built-up confines of the village, and does not constitute infilling. Members are also concerned about the effect on trees and access.
In recommending refusal, the planning report says the new property would be backland development, would mean removal of soft landscaping and be detrimental to nearby residents.
It would also be detrimental to the visual character of the street scene which is in the village conservation area, adds the report.
