Billingham Wolves head the English U-19 North A League following two wins at the weekend. On Saturday they won a closely contested clash at promoted Nottingham Leopards although the Teessiders had to overcome from a three-goal deficit to take the points in a 4-3 victory.
Nottingham went ahead at 01.38 and by 37.10 had increased the advantage to 3-0. Wolves began their recovery with a powerplay goal from Tom Griffiths at 39.05. The Teessiders had a second goal chalked off when a Stephen Wallace effort was disallowed because the net was off its moorings.
The second goal came from Shaun Buckley in the 50th minute. Another powerplay goal this time from Scott Ward tied the scores at 54.32. Wolves gained the winning goal from a penalty shot.
It was awarded at 57.09 when Wallace was impeded by Nottingham's Adam Radmall and from the resulting penalty shot, Wallace put Wolves 4-3 ahead. Despite a late surge by Leopards with Wolves having Ward in the penalty box, held on.

At Blackburn Thunderhaws on Sunday, Billingham Wolves were without the injured Richie Thornton who picked up a foot injury against Nottingham. David Flett, Wallace and Griffiths gave Billingham a 3-0 first period lead and Philip Pritchard added a fourth before Blackburn struck a reply.
Wolves were well in control in the second period as they went to extend their advantage to 7-1. Five without reply in the third rounded off the scoring for a 12-0 victory.

Sunderland Tomahaws are in second place after they had a 10-1 home win over Telford Trojans at Newcastle Telewest Arena. After two losses James Hutchinson gave the Wearsiders a tenth minute lead. Dean Hamilton, Kristian Lloyd and Adam Carr made it 4-0 by the end of the first period. A further straight hat-trick from Lloyd stretched their advantage to 7-0 before Telford struck at 44.56.
Carr and Lloyd (2) completed the scoring.

Whitley Mohawks suffered mixed fortunes in two English Pee-Wee (U-14) North A League matches at the weekend. On Saturday they were at Sunderland Commanches and came away with a 2-0 result.
Andrew Wille scored both goals, one in each period.
Mowhaws: Andrew Wile 2+0, Ben Campbell 0+2, Jack Stamp 0+1.
They had home advantage at Hillheads on Sunday when Billingham Falcons were the visitors. James Udell was first off the mark in the 13th minute when he gave Falcons the lead. He doubled the advantage ten minutes later. Mohawks came back at Falcons and cut the deficit through Ricky Box at 34.07. The two-goal cushion was restored in the 38th minute thanks to a goal from captain Stephen Pritchard.

At U-10 North League level Sunderland Apaches travelled to face Blackburn Merlins. Christian Close marked his debut for Apaches with a hat-trick. He opened the scoring at 04.10 and followed this up with goals at 17.04 and 29.56. After Blackburn had pulled a goal back for 3-1. Joshua Lalande (2) and Grant Sharp made it 6-1 with goals 24 seconds apart. Lalande also registered a hat-trick.

Sunderland Scorpions had enough firepower to defeat Cardiff Comets. In the women's premier league promoted Cardiff went behind in the second minute through Michelle Marriott. They were level in the 16th minute in a close first session.
Scorpions experience brought them two goals from Lynsey Emmerson and Jane Price for a 3-1 advantage. Price and Emmerson were on target again in the final period for a 5-1 win.
