THE Doncaster November Handicap looks on the cards for last year's winner Flossy following a popular Newmarket win this week for this consistent daughter of Efisio.
Chris Thornton, whose long history at Spigot Lodge will come to an end at the close of this year, trains Flossy for owner-breeder-patron Guy Reed, who has struck a deal to sell the yard to Karl Burke.
Flossy was an eye-catching third on Sunday to Kind Regards, Mark Johnston's Ascot winner. Richard Quinn told Thornton she had no sort of a race, so she went on to her Newmarket win, this time partnered by Darryll Holland.
Johnston has had another cracking week, with Riberac winning at Ascot on Saturday for owner-breeders Mr and Mrs G Middlebrook. Turku, bred by owner John Good, won at Haydock the same afternoon.
Kind Regards, owned by Maktoum Al Maktoum, was one leg of a very distant Sunday double, Akbar winning for Swiss owner Markus Graf at Dielsdorf, his home course.
It was nearly a Euro-treble for the Kingsley House team. Yavana's Pace, second last week in the Irish St Leger, travelled to Germany to contest the Group 1 Deutsche Post Euro Express Preis von Europa at Cologne.
Darryll Holland rode a beautiful race and went clear from halfway, but John Dunlop's Golden Snake snatched the spoils on the line in the shortest of short heads.
Johnston won at Newmarket on the same card as Flossy's success, Julius doing the business under apprentice Keith Dalgleish.
Looking at headquarters today, Johnston has re-booked his Ascot winning jockey Craig Williams to ride Hiddnah in the 2.05, the Godolphin Stakes. If anyone can conjure a long-priced win, Williams can.
David Nicholls has the Ayr Gold Cup winning team in the 2.35, Bahamian Pirate partnered by son Adrian Williams. They would have most to fear from Richard Hannon's Grey Eminence.
The 4.15 sees Tim Easterby's Out Of Africa partnered by Kevin Darley, who could revive the filly's two-year-old winning form.
A better bet on the Johnston front would be the Joe Fanning-ridden Atlantic Mystery, sent today to Lingfield for the 2.55 in preference to a Newmarket entry tomorrow.
Fanning is booked for tomorrow's Cambridgeshire on Johnston's Atlantic Rhapsody, while Richard Fahey chose Paul Hanagan for Vintage Premium. Both northern entries have good each-way prospects.
Others for Newmarket tomorrow are Fahey's Perpetuo off bottom weight in the 4.10, again Hanagan booked, and, if running, Chris Fairhurst's Boldly Goes or Les Eyre's Bodfari Anna, both in the 5.20 - a reverse exacta on the Tote could prove rewarding.
