RESIDENTS are appealing for the name of their parish to be included in the Stockton Borough corporate logo.
Ingleby Barwick Parish Council has appealed for the area to be included in the borough logo which says: "Serving Billingham, Stockton, Thornaby, Yarm and area."
The possibility of the logo being altered will be discussed at a meeting of the parish council liaison forum on Monday.
A parish council spokesman said: "Ingleby Barwick is now one of the largest wards in Stockton and it should receive recognition."
This view was backed by residents of the parish who claim Ingleby Barwick has grown so much in recent years it should be treated as equal to its neighbouring communities.
Ross Patterson, from Barwick's Own Secondary School campaign, said: "We care about the area, but in general over the years we have had the short end of the straw.
"Ingleby Barwick is bigger than Yarm, but because it has the history of having being here so long it gets the attention.
"Ingleby Barwick stands on its own. It has 5,500 occupied houses.
"I have lived here for 16 years and I remember when the last bus was at 6.30pm and there was no pub here.
"It has grown and the council has to realise things have changed.
"They are quite happy to take our council tax, but they need to act quickly on things like this. Everything we want we have to push for."
Ingleby Barwick is the only parish in the Stockton borough to have only one councillor, despite it being one of the biggest wards in the area.
Resident Neil Walker, 27, of Cradoc Grove, said: "It's about time we got the recognition we deserve.
"I also think we should be known as a town because we are big enough."
Councillor Bob Gibson, of the parish council liaison forum, said: "This issue has been raised, and along with many other issues will be discussed at the parish council liaison forum meeting.
