TIME is running out for football fans to put their shirts on a piece of prized Newcastle United memorabilia.

The black and white striped shirt worn by United legend Jackie Milburn in the 1955 FA Cup Final left is up for grabs in an on-line sale.

In a first Internet football auction, Sotheby's is offering 150 lots, featuring players' caps, shirts and medals, match programmes and autograph memorabilia.

Bids must be mounted in dollars.

"Wor Jackie's" number nine shirt, in which he scored what was at the time the fastest goal in FA Cup Final history, is expected to fetch between $5,000 and $8,000, with a starting price of $4,500, about £3,000.

Sotheby's football expert, Graham Budd, said interest is expected to hot up approaching Monday's 5pm deadline.

"We expect to get a rush of bids in the last few hours, and quite often more than one person is still bidding when the clock goes down to zero, so we keep the sale running until there's a clear winner."

The Ashington-born centre forward, capped 13 times for England, scored 170 goals in 354 league appearances for the Magpies, playing in all three of Newcastle's FA Cup triumphs in the 1950s.
