A TEENAGER who acted as a look-out during a burglary was ordered to perform community service work yesterday.
Steven Barrett had met a friend in the street when he was asked to act as a lookout. The man he was with broke into a house and stole a video recorder, hair dryer and bottles of spirits.
Yesterday, Teesside Crown Court was told that the other man had been sentenced to four years in custody, including 18 months for the same burglary.
Barrett, 18, of Daphne Crescent, Seaham, County Durham, admitted burglary.
Judge Gerard Harkins ordered him to perform 200 hours of community service work and pay costs of £414.
Simon Mallett, prosecuting, said that when Barrett was arrested he said he had been asked to act as a lookout and was given three bottles of spirits as a reward.
Jane Waugh, for Barrett, said he was in employment and still only 18.
