COUNCILLORS are being urged to give the go-ahead for the transformation of a nursing home into luxury apartments on the outskirts of Darlington.
Raymond and Suzanne Ward want to convert Dinsdale Park Nursing Home, at Middleton- St-George, into 20 apartments.
They have taken the decision to redevelop the home because they say it is becoming too expensive to maintain.
The apartments would be put up for sale, with current nursing home residents being moved to a new home in the Darlington area.
Darlington Borough Council's planning applications committee will hear tomorrow how, following discussions between council officers and local people, Mr Ward was asked to address certain highway issues, including providing details of road access improvements.
It followed concern that access into the home is in a poor condition and that the safety of pedestrians needs to be safeguarded.
Dinsdale Hall was originally designed as a hotel in 1829, then became a retreat for invalids and later a residential special school, before being turned into a nursing home.
