A MYSTERY buyer has snapped up the shirt worn by Newcastle United legend Jackie Milburn in the 1955 FA Cup Final for £5,280.
Bids were invited for the shirt through auctioneer Sotheby's Internet site and 28 offers were made.
It had been put up for sale by Robert Scott, 40, of South Shields, who was just 13 when his father, who knew "Wor Jackie", brought him the shirt during a stay in hospital.
The unemployed father-of-two decided to auction the autographed shirt after worrying that it was deteriorating in a cupboard at his home.
The shirt was worn by Jackie Milburn when he scored what was then the fastest Wembley FA Cup Final goal, hitting the net against Manchester City in just 45 seconds.
That record was beaten by Chelsea's Roberto Di Matteo when he scored in the 1997 final against Middlesbrough
