A YOUTH was in custody yesterday after a group of Norwegians on an educational visit to Scarborough were beaten up by locals.
The altercation began on the seaside resort's Foreshore Road at about 10pm on Thursday.
But fists began to fly when both groups moved on to the Eastborough estate.
Two 15-year-old Norwegians needed hospital treatment for facial injuries suffered in the brawl. Two more were hurt but did not require medical attention.
A police spokesman said the incident was being treated "very seriously indeed" by local officers, who are often involved in projects which bring foreign visitors to the Yorkshire coast.
Witnesses who may have seen what happened in the Foreshore Road area or in the Eastborough area are being urged to contact their local police station
