A TEENAGER who battered to death a man making his way home from a New Year's party told a court he was so drunk he didn't know what he was doing.
Malcolm Wilson, 46, was killed after attending a Millennium party last year.
Newcastle Crown Court heard how two youths kicked and stamped on Mr Wilson after deciding to steal his money.
The second of the 16-year-olds gave evidence yesterday, saying: "I was drunk, I didn't know what I was doing."
Prosecutor Brian Forster, QC, said the boy's trousers were blood splattered.
He said "It was the type of splatter you get when you are kicking into wet blood or you are close to someone who is doing that."
The court heard how Mr Wilson suffered severe cuts to the head during the beating.
Mr Forster said: "This man had been kicked forcefully at least five times to the head."
The second youth admitted he and his friend stood on opposite sides as they kicked him.
Ten minutes after the beating they went to a party, as Mr Wilson died from his injuries.
Timber yard worker Mr Wilson had been on his way home from a party at The Shack, Boldon Colliery, South Tyneside.
The pair, who cannot be named, deny murder but admit manslaughter. The trial continues
