DARLINGTON boss Gary Bennett hopes to bring in at least one new face before Saturday's home clash with Torquay.

The Quakers chief has endured a busy spell on the transfer front in a bid to boost his squad.

So far he has failed, but Bennett remains confident of at least one loan signing as he said last night: "I have a few irons in the fire.

"Maybe it will be one or maybe two. It all depends, but hopefully we will have someone in for the Torquay game."

A striker remains at the top of Bennett's wish list, but he admitted it wasn't easy finding one.

Newcastle's Jamie Coppinger has already turned down a return to Feethams and Bennett said: "Everyone seems to be looking for a goalscorer.

"They are not easy to find but I will keep on looking and hopefully something will come off."

l Sheffield Wednesday chairman Howard Culley has suffered many sleepless nights worrying about the future of his club - and he admits he is in for many more.

After surviving a vote of 'no confidence' in his leadership at an EGM in June, Culley was again forced to listen to calls for his head at Tuesday's AGM.

Drastic times have called for drastic measures, leading to a sell off of an entire team of players to reduce the sky-high wage bill, helping to bring the debt down to £10.7m.

''I have taken the job on and I have a responsibility," he said.

"I don't intend to walk away from it unless the future of the club is secured,'' said Culley.
