A PENSIONER died yesterday from a heart attack after he climbed on his roof to turn his burglar alarm off because he thought it was a nuisance for his neighbours.
Ronald Hill, 76, had climbed on to the roof of his first floor flat at Epsom Road, on Redcar's racecourse estate at about midnight on Tuesday, to switch off his activated burglar alarm
Two fire appliances from Redcar Fire Station and one emergency tender from Coulby Newham attended the house.
Mr Hill's heart stopped twice while he was on the roof but firefighters and ambulance crew managed to revive him. He was taken by ambulance to the intensive care unit at Middlesbrough General Hospital, where he later died.
The emergency services also had to give oxygen to Mr Hill's distressed wife, who also suffers from heart problems.
Tom Kerr-Morgan, acting station officer at Redcar Fire Station, said: "Firefighters and ambulance crews worked very well together, but I am very saddened to hear he died.
"He must have been a fighter because it was bitterly cold on the roof and he seemed a strong character.
