A TREASURED family photograph will take its place among some of the nation's most powerful images as part of a history project.
Kenneth Broomfield's photograph of a mock wedding in North Ormesby has always held a special place in his heart.
Despite being only five when it was taken, he still remembers posing for it between his father, who was dressed as a bride, and his mother.
The event was staged in 1926, before the National Health Service, to raise money for the provision and upkeep of a hospital bed.
Now the photograph, which Mr Broomfield has had copied for the rest of his family, has won a place in The History Channel's Photos for the Future 2 exhibition.
It is being displayed along with other regional winners, at the Royal Hotel, in Whitby, this month.
Mr Broomfield, 79, who lives at Tanton Meadow, in Stokesley, is one of only five entrants nationwide to win a video camera, as well as a family ticket to English Heritage's re-enactment of the Battle of Hastings.
He said he has always known that the photograph was special.
"It has been in my family for many years, and it holds very special memories for me," he said.
"I have treasured it for a long time, and my wife has even done a painting of it."
As well as being displayed at local exhibitions, the winning photographs will also be shown in a series of two-minute programmes being broadcast on the History Channel.
They are featured in a gallery on the channel's website at www.thehistorychannel.co.uk
