County Super League
Crook B clinched the Championship despite struggling in their final match at Durham before edging through by two points. Shildon had the chance of going above them but they also struggled to beat the visiting Bishop Auckland by two points.
Against Crook B, Durham had two points from Gavin West and Dave Hodgson with Graham Comerford and Barry Dowson adding one each. Crook B went to the Championship with two points from Darren Tinkler and John Mason with John Warriner, Gavin Witton, Cliff Owen and Les Scott adding one each.
In their home game against Bishop Auckland, Shildon had two points from Mal Parry and Kevin Watson with Steve Phillips, Rance Richardson, Martin Taylor and David Waites adding one each. Chris Peacock scored two points for the Bishops with Adrian Jones, Paul Willey, Michael Hoggart and Chris Bowran adding one each.
Newton Aycliffe went down by two points at home to Crook A in their final match. Gary Spooner scored two for the home side with Dave Bromley, Eddie Mackay, Ross Killip and Stuart Neil adding one each. Crook edged through to win with two points each for Dave Leighton, David Haygarth and Neil Campbell with Doug Bowey and Jim Ainsley adding one each.
l The Durham County Super League Singles Championships will be held on Sunday, October 15 at noon in Cookson's Club at Chester-le-Street. £25 will be added to the entry money as prize money.
CIU Team
Preliminary results: Crowtrees beat Langley Park; Consett Victoria beat Ferryhill Station; Ferryhill B beat West Auckland A; Thornley beat High Fell A; Shotton Comrades beat Trimdon and Deaf Hill B; Trimdon and Deaf Hill A beat Cockfield; North Biddick lost to Grange Villa C; Quarrington Hill B lost to Willington Prospect; South Hetton beat High Fell B; Fencehouses Conrades lost to Grange Villa A. There were byes for Quarrington Hill A, Ferryhill A, Grange Villa B, Burnside, Chilton and Windlestone and West Auckland.
Tow Law League
Tow Law Black Horse took three vital points from their hosts at Sunniside Comedian to deny them the sole right to the top spot in the table. Barry Hogarth and Tom Dowson took singles points for the Horse with Ramby Henderson joining Tom Dowson to take a doubles point. The Comedian had singles points from Carl Wilcockson, Chris Hardy, Stephen Wilkinson and Robert Wilkinson to add to their two doubles points.
Tow Law Station moved up to share the top spot when they only dropped two points on their visit to Hamilton Row Black Horse, who had singles wins from Bill Owens and Barry Sims. The third place in the table is shared between Lanchester King's Head and Tow Law New Market B.

Durham and District League
Defending League Champions, Durham Snooker Club travelled to Bowburn Oak Tree B, where they had to work hard before recording their fourth consecutive victory of the new season. The home side got away to a great start when they went 3-1 up with wins from Brian Hann, Neil Phillips and Colin Barron with only Dave Jones replying.
However the visitors levelled with wins from Chris Beswick and Terry Barker. Brian Hann scored his second point to restore the home lead but then wins from Michael Rhodes and Dave Jones put the visitors ahead for the first time. The see-saw continued when Colin Barron equalised.
The visitors showed why they are champions when Chris Beswick and David Harrison won under pressure and Michael Rhodes retained their unbeaten record when he beat Colin Barron in the captain's game.
The game at Chester-le-Street Cooksons against Framwellgate Moor Marquis of Granby had to be postponed, after the visitors had established an early lead, because of a power cut.

Bishop Auckland League
Spennymoor Football Club made one of their best wins as they near the end of their first season in the league, when they beat the visiting West Auckland Eden Arms by the odd point. In the singles the footballers had two points from Stephen Wall and Brian Anderson with John Plummer and Gary Smith adding one each. The Eden replied with two points from Steve Webb and one each from John Tomlinson and Brian Tarn. The footballers took the doubles through Stephen Wall and John Plummer but Steve Webb closed the gap to one point when he beat Ian Dixon in both captain's games.
