AN epileptic woman was robbed of her purse as she suffered a fit in the street.
Police investigating the theft in Washington, Wearside, have slammed the thief as "despicable".
The 23-year-old woman was walking along Willow's Close, Columbia, Washington, at 1pm, on Wednesday, when she collapsed to the ground.
When she came around several minutes later she was being helped by an older woman who left the scene.
The victim later discovered that her purse containing a quantity of cash and personal papers was missing.
Detective Inspector Ray Morton, of Washington CID, said: "The circumstances surrounding this theft are desperate;. Those responsible are despicable.
"It happened just after 1pm near the Swan Industrial Estate and I am sure there will have been cars and pedestrians going past. We would urge them to get in touch."
Detectives want to trace the older woman, who is described as about 40, wearing a blue coat and skirt and carrying a large shoulder bag.
