Although there was a disappointing turnout for the RAFA Leeming Charity Open on Saturday, the £1300 raised was outstanding, writes JEFF HERBERT.
Fished on the middle Swale the loyal supporters who turned up enjoyed the best river action of the weekend.
Individual honours went to Gary Lumsden of the Boroughbridge Musketeers who recorded 15.1.0. On the first peg below Bedale Beckmouth, Gary suffered a slow start then a change of tactics to the lobworm immediately brought four good chub - best specimen nudging 6.0.0. Trevor McCardle of Can't Catch, Won't Catch emerged runner-up also taking three chub but of a smaller stamp. Lobworm and cheese three below the Shark's Fin accounted for 13.10.0 from M Highe of Hirst Tackle 8.1.0 and P Adams of Elton Tackle Rivermen B 7.14.0.
In the team event every point counted as Helperby AC nicked the glory by just one point from Can't Catch, Won't Catch on 87 and Elton Tackle A 85 points. Proceeds of the match will be split between the First Leeming Scout Troop and the Nuffield Trust.

Anglers World's Darren Starkey had the most 9.13.0. Poled at seven and 11 metres switching between an assortment of baits located a bream of 4.7.0 adding small bits off the middle peg on the paddock at Fulford.

In Saturday's open on Woodland Lakes (Partridge & Skylark) skills were tested to the full when 68 rods battled against the elements.
Following good midweek returns Skylark once again proved the best producing the leaders.
Dave Jowett jnr. of Fishermans Way on 47.3.0 topped the list off peg 21. Conditions dictated the pole close in and Dave worked to 7 metres. Both worm and caster attracted practically every species from the lake - best a carp of 3.0.0. Andy Waistell of Map Elton was relegated to second place off peg six. Andy's all carp return totalled 43.6.0 to pole and sweetcorn.

B Blythe MNS 60.10.0 mostly carp off Skylark 19 on pole pellet and sweetcorn.
