A WOMAN and her daughter escaped from a fire which started in the bedroom of their home early yesterday.
The 36-year-old mother escaped from the two-storey maisonette in Waterloo Walk, Sulgrave, Washington, suffering from smoke inhalation and minor burns. She was treated by firefighters, but declined hospital treatment. Her 20-year-old daughter fled the fire without harm. The house was not fitted with smoke alarms.
In a separate incident, a mother and her 13-year-old daughter were carried to safety when fire broke out at their home in Borrowdale Avenue, Fulwell, Sunderland, at 5.30am on Saturday
