COUPLES on Teesside who want children are being urged to consider adopting a youngster.
Jackie Ward, child placement team manager with Stockton Borough Council, said people should not sell themselves short when considering whether to adopt.
She said: "We look after a number of children from various backgrounds, who would love a family of their own.
"People may have misconceptions about who we will consider as adopters so they rule themselves out, but often they're wrong to do this.
"We need people from all backgrounds and age groups. There is no such thing as the ideal parent.''
An information evening is being held at Springs Health Club, at Teesside Park, near Thornaby, on October 26, between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
Would-be adopters will be able to speak to a member of Stockton's child placement team. Ring (01642) 397212 for details.
