MIRACLE tot Georgia Wilkins defied the odds to be born - and is now confounding medics again by leading a normal life despite having three kidneys.
The smiling, blue-eyed two-year-old looks like any other child but is on daily medication to counter the rare condition, called ectopic kidney syndrome.
Georgia's mum Sam, 29, of Fenham, Newcastle, was told by doctors that she could never have children after contracting pelvic inflammatory disease four years ago,
But she and husband Steve, a 31-year-old marine, were overjoyed when they discovered she was expecting.
But when she was a year old, Georgia became seriously ill and was referred to hospital.
She was found to have one normal kidney and a double organ which was fused together, resulting in her producing more urine than her body could cope with.
Doctors at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary treated the condition with a medicine called Trimethoprim, which she must take until she is five.
Sam said: "We were horrified at first when they said they had discovered she had three kidneys. I had never heard of such a thing.
"She has now been put on medication to prevent her from suffering water infections and since she has been taking that she has been much more active.
"She now leads a normal life and is full of bounce and energy, she is like any other little girl.
"But they are monitoring the situation closely and, if further scarring happens, they may remove the double kidney, leaving her with one.
