THE launch of a new state-of-the-art IT system looks set to revolutionise the way small and medium-sized retailers conduct their business throughout the region.
The new electronic point of sale (E-POS) package is the latest business tool to emerge from the stable of Newcastle-based accountancy software specialists Sage.
The system offers small and medium sized retailers the type of electronic price and stock control normally only seen in larger retail organisations.
The package includes infra-red bar code pricing equipment which is automatically linked to a computerised stock control programme.
It also boasts a built-in credit and debit card payment technology and is fully compatible with Sage accountancy systems.
E-POS has been designed specifically for the small and medium-size enterprise (SME) sector and the family owner managed businesses (FOMBs).
With this in mind the emphasis is firmly on ease of use, simple installation and low cost.
Horwath Clark Whitehill Accountancy Software (HCWAS), is one of the first dealers in the North-East now offering the system, and interest has already proved strong.
Mike Dunn, director at HCWAS, is anticipating a huge demand in the product from small retailers.
"For quite a while now large retailers have enjoyed the benefits of computer-linked checkouts," he said.
"But the price and complexity of such systems have placed them beyond the reach of small retailers. The new systems have been designed to meet their needs at an affordable price."
The system is already available for demonstration, and the first EPOS seminar will be held today at HCWAS offices in Hartlepool.
Anyone wishing to attend should call Mike Dunn on (01429) 234414.
