TOBACCO workers fighting to save their jobs were in Brussels yesterday to meet with regional Euro MP and Labour environment spokesman, David Bowe.
The group of workers from Rothmans in Darlington were there to voice their concerns over the effect on manufacturing at the site if new EU legislation proposed to limit the amount of tar in cigarettes for export outside the EU goes ahead.
Union leaders believe if the legislation goes through around 80 per cent of production at the Darlington site would be affected, threatening hundreds of jobs in the industry and thousands among outside suppliers.
