A MAJOR piece of art is to be incorporated into a new cycle bridge.
Renowned London artist Peter Fink has designed the work on the bridge, which will cross the A689 dual carriageway at Sedgefield, County Durham.
The bridge will enable one of the last big stretches of the national cycle route to be started. Once completed, it will give access not only to the national cycle route, but also to the North Sea and coast-to-coast networks.
One of the problems in completing the scheme has been finding a safe way for cyclists and walkers to cross the busy road.
However, proposals have now been agreed for the new cycle bridge, with the help of money from the National Lottery Millennium fund.
Work on the bridge will get under way this month and should be completed by April next year. The design for the bridge is on display in Sedgefield library
