YOUNGSTERS in Redcar and Cleveland have been getting a taste of life on the roads at a pre-driver training scheme.
It is the third year the Mega Drive scheme, organised by Langbaurgh Police and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, has been running.
It gives 16-year-olds the chance to get behind the wheel of a car under the supervision of a driving instructor.
The programme, at Redcar Racecourse, is aimed at cutting the numbers of young people committing motoring offences through a lack of knowledge of motoring laws.
Last year, more than 200 teenagers took part, and this year there are even more youngsters keen to join in.
As well as getting a taste of driving, the teenagers also gain some background knowledge, including vehicle ownership, the pitfalls to avoid when buying a car, advice on car insurance and how to maintain a car
