Youngsters are gearing up to give the performance of a lifetime when they stage the musical Annie.

Spennymoor Youth Theatre Group are busy rehearsing their latest production, which tells the tale of an inspirational orphan and her struggle with orphanage-life. The all-singing, all-dancing cast, aged between eight and 21, have pulled out all the stops for the show.

Group secretary Ann Sproat said: "The rehearsals have been brilliant. It's going to be a really good show. The choreography is brilliant.

"The only thing we have changed is that Annie will be blonde, because we haven't got a child with ginger hair.

And there will be no dog, because we couldn't find one that would sit long enough."

The musical runs at Bishop Barrington School, Bishop Auckland, from Wednesday, October 25, to Saturday, October 28, and there will be a prize draw on Saturday.

The group is always on the look-out for new members. Anyone interested in joining should contact Ann Sproat on (01325) 316917.
