THE A174 Redcar to Whitby road is to be temporarily closed - only weeks after it re-opened.
Last month Loftus Bank was re-opened after a nine-week closure for work to stabilise the bank after landslips and flooding 18 months ago.
Now Saltburn Bank and Ship Inn Bank are to be temporarily closed overnight for two weeks, starting from October 23, for resurfacing works.
Ralph Ferguson, director of technical services for Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, said a high friction surfacing treatment is needed on the two banks and will require full closure.
The expensive treatment to be used on the two banks helps increase the friction between car tyres and the road surface. It is needed because the banks are so steep and have hairpin bends.
The closure will take place in two phases - at Saltburn Bank between the junction with Marine Parade and Saltburn Lane and Ship Inn Bank between Saltburn Lane and Coach Road, Brotton.
In order to minimise the disruption for motorists, work will take place overnight between 11.30pm and 6.30am.
Mr Ferguson said: "Motorists are advised to take extra care when approaching the area of the works and following the diversion route signs."
The diversion will operate via the A174 Quarry Lane roundabout, the B1267 Orchard Bank and Skelton and Brotton bypass.
The council says access will be available to the emergency services during the closure at all times, and the last bus travelling to Loftus, the 762, will be allowed through before the works begin.
