Schoolchildren were treated to a performance by a group of French actors yesterday.
About 70 children, aged three to six, watched Pointure 23 perform A Warm Wet Welcome, at Ushaw Moor Infants School, County Durham.
The group has been taking part in a festival in Cleveland.
Their production, written by Sylvie Bloch and translated into English by Paul Harman, director of the Cleveland Theatre Company, is about communication and includes puppets.
The one-off performance was arranged by Durham City Arts.
Douglas Walker, Durham City Arts' arts development officer for the Deerness Valley, said: "The production features people talking in different languages, such as Hungarian and Spanish.
"It is about how people get along when they come from different cultures and speak in different languages.
