THE grand opening of a £230,000 North-West Durham leisure facility and tourist attraction takes place this weekend.
The South Stanley Green Corridor - a four-mile footpath from Craghead to South Moor - boasts works designed by local schoolchildren.
Money to create the corridor came from Northumbrian Water Environmental Trust, the Countryside Alliance, the European Union and English Partnerships. Members of County Durham environmental charity Groundwork West Durham worked with Derwentside District Council to create the route.
The opening ceremony is at St Mary's RC Primary School, near the centre of the corridor, in Tyne Road, South Stanley, at noon on Saturday.
