Durham County Men's teams made massive home victories at Chester-le-Street Cooksons against North Yorkshire to take the titles in both the A and B Region One Inter Counties Championship tables. The visitors' A team only managed to take three points from the 44 played for as Durham romped to the title.
The B team match was also a big win for the Durham side but they needed it as they were level with East Yorkshire going into the match. Their 37-7 success was just enough for them to take the title. Eddie Mackay of Newton Aycliffe, Richard Walker of Crook, Peter Coates of Crook, Graham Comerford of Durham and Barry Patterson of Langley Park all scored four points from their four games.
Both the Durham Men's A and B teams will now contest the All England Championships to be played in Great Yarmouth in March next year.
The Durham Ladies team came through to a narrow 24-20 victory against North Yorkshire. A win was a fitting tribute to Slvia Goodall of Tow Law, who was one of the first ladies ever to play for a County Ladies team fifteen years ago. She has played throughout the years and to mark her retirement from Region One Championship Pool, the Durham Lady Captain, Sue Seal presented her with an engraved rose bowl and a large bouquet.
In the Durham victory Sue Seal of Sherburn, Ann Curry of Chester-le-Street and Helen Littlewood of Langley Moor all won four points from their four matches
