Durham and District League
The young and enthusiastic Gilesgate DLI team came very close to their first win since becoming new members of the league at the start of the season. They entertained Broom Park Loves and narrowly went down by the odd point. However, on this improving form, it will not be long before the wins start mounting up.
Michael Parker put the DLI ahead but then Brian Jackson and Helen Littlewood made wins for the Loves. James Miles and Dennis Lumley brought the home side back into the lead but then the visitors hit a purple patch with five in a row. Keith Melvin scored two points and there was one each for Stephen Nicholson, Peter Jackson and Helen Littlewood.
The DLI showed their fighting spirit when Michael Parker and James Miles both won their second points and then Dennis Lumley beat Jimmy Richardson in the captain's game.

County Super League
Ia re-arranged match Ferryhill B came out on top by four points in the derby match against their A team. The B team's points came from Martin Short, Steve Wray and Joe Wray with two each, while Steve Webster, Ronnie McAloon and Terry Wray scored one each. Frank Greenwood won two points for the A team with Alan Ankers, Gordon Tyreman and Simon Corbridge adding one each.
The League Knock Out Cup quarter finals will be played on Sunday, 22 October with the following matches - Bishop Auckland v Crook A; Ferryhill B v Ferryhill A; Shildon v Durham and Crook B v Newton Aycliffe. The draw for the semi-finals to be played on October 29 is Shildon or Durham v Ferryhill A or B and Crook B or Newton Aycliffe v Bishop Auckland or Crook A.
Tow Law League
Sunniside Comedian were expected to extend their lead at the top when they visited lowly Tow Law Rose and Crown but the home side raised their game and narrowly lost by the odd point. The Comedian had singles wins from Lee Cullinan, Robert Wilkinson, Chris Cavagan and Chris Hardy, whilst Neil Stevens and Lee Mowbray replied for the home side. The Rose and crown had doubles points from Neil Stevens with Lee Mowbray and Chris Bowes with Brian Trelford but Carl Wilcockson and Stephen Wilkinson grabbed the vital fifth point for the visitors.
This result leaves the Comedian in top spot with a two points advantage over Tow Law New Market B and Lanchester King's Head, who share second place. Tow Law Station trail these two by three points but have a match in hand.

Bishop Auckland League
West Auckland Eden Arms made a good home win over Witton Park Rose and Crown following their success in the singles section. There were two singles points for John Banks, Robert Miles and John Tomlinson with Harry Gittens adding one for the Eden Arms while Keith Bowers with two and Barry Thexton with one replied for the visitors.
The Witton Park side came back to take the doubles point through Geoff Maughan and Keith Bowers before John Tomlinson and Barry Thexton shared the captain's points.
All the players wish secretary, Russell Place a speedy recovery from his recent emergency hospital treatment.
