A NEW pensioners' forum in east Cleveland is to hold its first meeting next month, following an appeal for volunteers.

The group has had to be extended already because of the huge amount of interest shown in the project.

Mike Findley, from Marske, was asked by the National Pensioners' Convention to set up a local branch in the Marske, New Marske and Redcar area last month. The aim of the forum is to provide representation for older people to have an influence on local policy making and deal with a wide range of local and national issues. The group is open to all pensioners and pension groups in the area.

Mr Findley says he has had so much interest he has had to extend the catchment area to include Saltburn and the east Cleveland villages.

The meeting is on Friday, November 3, from 2pm until 4pm at the Cheshire Home, in Redcar Road, Marske. There will be an election of officers and committee members. There will be talks from former BBC Radio Cleveland presenter Bill Hunter, Frank Watt of the National Pensioners' Convention and Dave Punshon of Age Concern in the North-East.
