Camerons Teesside League

Acklam Steelworks, who scrapped a 1-0 win at Thornaby Youth Club last week, had to battle hard against Whitby side Fishburn Park who were on a five match unbeaten run. But league leaders Acklam dominated the start of the match and took a tenth minute lead through Steve Boyle, his seventh of the season. The visitors tried to find a way back into the match but the Acklam rearguard, with Cappy Warburton in charge never looked in trouble. In the 35th minute Charlie Agiadis, back in the side after a long suspension, made it 2-0 going into the half-time break. In the second half the home side looked in no danger and Warburton was on target to secure Acklam's 2-0 win.

Cargo Fleet kept the pressure on Acklam with their tenth win of the season but were made to battle all the way by visitors Whitby Town Reserves. Fleet took the lead in the 12th minute when a Paul Jewitt cross was turned into the Whitby net by a Whitby defender. Fourteen minutes later Gary Hamilton, who scored a record eleven goals against BEADS back in August, scored his 14th of the season with a shot that took a deflection of a Whitby defender to give the Fleet a 2-0 lead at half-time. In the second half the visitors pushed forward and saw the hosts have Hamilton sent off to help their cause, but although they pressed forward the ten men of Cargo Fleet held on to secure the 2-0 win.

Carlin How who slipped to a disappointing 2-0 defeat by Cargo Fleet last week, shared a five-goal thriller with visitors Richmond Town. Richmond without their top goalscorers, Wilson and Gredziak, had most of the possession for the early part of the match and it was no surprise that they took the lead. An excellent chip from 20 yards by David Jones, who ran between two defenders before beating Mark Harkin in goal after half an hour. Eight minutes later Carlin How were back on level terms when Kevin Solomon flicked on a corner for Martin Say, who has not finished on the losing side when he's scored for Carlin How this season, flicked the ball home with his knee. The half time score was1-1. Nine minutes into the second half Carlin How went ahead when a Say cross from the left was headed home into the bottom corner by Steve Starsmore. In the 65th minute Say was again involved by flicking the ball on for Kevin Solomon to hammer the ball home from fifteen yards to give Carlin How a 3-1 lead. Five minutes later Jones, who was Richmond Town's Man of the Match, struck an overhead kick to make it 3-2. The home side then had to withstand ten minutes of constant pressure but held on to secure the points.

Grangetown Boys Club and visitors Bedale Athletic had met four weeks ago back, in the MacMillan Bowl, with the Boys Club winning 3-0, after Bedale had a player sent off.

During the weekend's games the first half-hour, like the cup match, was very even, but the Boys Club took the lead in the 31st minute when Gary Simpson, with his first of the season scored. Five minutes later Bedale were back on level terms when Adam Bramley, with his 7th of the season made it 1-1. Two minutes later a first of the season from Mark Hackett gave the Boys Club a 2-1 half-time advantage. Eight minutes into the second half, Mark Robinson, who was the player sent off in the cup match, pulled it back to 2-2 with his third of the season with the match swinging from end to end. In the 65th minute, substitute Dave Watson restored the Boys Club's lead with a 25 yard strike, his first of the season. The visitors pressed forward but in the 79th minute Simpson struck again to give his team a good 4-2 win before next weeks County Cup match against Rydale.

Hollybush United were hoping to bounce back onto the winning track when entertaining Wolviston Reserves, who before the match had only managed three draws. And the visitors shook the hosts in the ninth minute, when James Moore with his third of the season gave the visitors the lead. Although Hollybush pressed forward the score at half time remained at 1-0 to the visitors. In the second half Hollybush pushed forward but were caught out in the 63rd minute when Ian Thompson, with his first of the season, gave Wolviston an impressive 2-0 lead. A minute later Andrew Clark gave Wolviston a 3-0 lead and their first win of the season, widening the gap between Mackinlay Park and themselves to five points.

Redcar side Mackinlay Park clashed with Stokesley Sports Club in a six pointer, a win for the home side would keep them in touch with the improving Stokesley side. However, they lost and are now stranded on one point, and with Wolviston's shock result at Skelton, against Hollybush United, now five points adrift. Stokesley managed by Tony Escritt, saw his son Lee give the visitors the lead after only 22 minutes. The lead lasted only ten minutes before Jonathan Webb equalised. A minute into the second half Stokesley took the lead for the second time with a second of the season from Richard O'Conner and two minutes later Lee Evens gave the visitors a 3-1 lead. The match was end to end with the home side trying to find a lifeline into the match but in the 78th minute Ben Escritt, who played in goal in last week's 4-1 win over New Marske made it 4-1, with his second of the match to secure three welcome points for Stokesley, leaving Mackinlay Park, looking for their first league win of the season.

New Marske Sports Club were under pressure from visitors Nunthorpe Athletic but in the 26th minute the broke away through Adam Taylor to take the lead against a shocked Nunthorpe side. But the lead only lasted a minute, before a Paul McCrone cross was headed home by an unmarked Phil Pinkney. In the 70th minute Nunthorpe substitute Peter Boldison broke the deadlock by giving Nunthorpe the lead for the first time and six minutes later, Lee Doughty, who was Nunthorpe's Man of the Match gave his side a 3-1 lead. Scott Robson secured Nunthorpe's 4-1 win and they now move into third place.

Thornaby and Middlesbrough side BEADS, were evenly matched but BEADS took the lead ten minutes before half time through Michael Walker following a corner. Nine minutes into the second half Jason Lake with his first of the season made it all square and then Thornaby pressed forward only to see Walker regain the visitors' lead with his second of the game and 8th of the season to make it 2-1. The home side pressed forward but in the 70th minute Lee Bowes nipped in to make to 3-1 to BEADS with his third of the season.

Guisb Town Res versus Thornaby YC was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The first round of the Stokesley League Challenge Cup took centre stage last weekend with Tanfield Bros. scoring six against Onyx FC in a game that produced nine goals in total.

Tanfield had the better of the early exchanges going two up with goals from Paul Wardell and Andy Fixter but Onyx reduced the arrears shortly before half time when Darren Symon converted from the penalty spot. The crucial spell of the game came shortly after the break when Tanfield hit three goals in quick succession. Wardell completed his hat trick with Fixter getting his second of the game to make it 5-1.

Onyx however continued to make a game of it and hit back with two well struck efforts from Ben Codey and Ian Mills but any thoughts of taking the game to extra time were killed off when Mark Geddes made the final score 6-3.

Dormans FC also progressed to the next round beating Lingdale FC 4-0. Two goals apiece from Elliott and McGowan did the damage for Dormans although Lingdale FC, not having had the best of starts this season, acquitted themselves well with keeper Ian Turner pulling off a string of fine saves.

B & H Kings Head coasted into the next round with an 8-0 win over Huntsman Athletic. Brian Crawley scored twice before the break together with Darren Askew and Michael Jones to give B & H a 4-0 lead. Goals from Simon and Lee Johnson continued the goal spree and it was left to Crawley to complete the goal rush with two more in the last fifteen minutes.

Teesside Athletic continue to go from strength to strength and they showed how far they have come with a 4-1 win over Middlesbrough Post Office.

Goals from Steve Berry, Michael Yuill and Chris Ellis gave Athletic the upper hand by half time and had it not been for some heroics in the Post Office goal from Alan Linton the damage could have been even greater. The second half saw a rejuvenated Post Office side come out fighting and they were unlucky not to reduce the arrears when Stuart Rose hit the upright.

Inevitably it was Teesside Athletic who scored on the break as Post Office continued to press forward when Mark Farrel put the result beyond doubt. Lee Thompson started and finished the move that produced the goal of the game and some consolation for Post Office with only a few minutes remaining.

Woodman's Arms also made progress in the competition despite going a goal behind to Redcar Coke Ovens in a tie that they eventually won 4-2.

Goals from Paul Cochrane and John Mothersill gave Woodman's a half time lead before Coke Ovens bounced back for a second time. Graham Thompson restored the Woodman's advantage but it was second strike from Cochrane that finally settled the game.

In the only league game to be played, Boosbeck moved up seven places thanks to their 4-0 win over Stokesley.

Paul Round scored twice before the break and wrapped up an excellent performance by first completing his hat trick and then scoring the goal of the game dribbling through the Stokesley defence before chipping the keeper from the edge of the box.
