STAFF and pupils at a Teesdale school were transported back to the days of the Second War World during a special event.
Teachers and students at Teesdale Comprehensive School, in Barnard Castle, were given the opportunity to find out more about life during the blitz, and food rationing, at a theme day on the 1940s.
The school's library was transformed into a walk-through archive of books, documents, gas masks, uniforms and memorabilia.
To make the experience all the more real, the library was fitted with screens playing authentic video clips from the era.
To encourage the students to research the documents on display, they were invited to work on a topic based on the era.
After the students had finished their projects, they could listen to first-hand accounts of the war from people who were alive in the 1940s.
Pupils interviewed seven members of the Bede Day Centre, in Barnard Castle, who relived their experiences during the war years.
