Sunday Invitation League
Alison Blower and Louise Green sparkled in their debut match for Roseberry as they helped their team to a 6-0 win against Northallerton.
The first ten minutes saw Northallerton pushing hard, trying to find holes in Roseberry's defence with attacking moves by Betina Howard and Anthea Sutcliffe but were no match for Roseberry's defence.
Attacking play from the back to the left side partnership of Katy Moon, Rowena Simpson and Hannah Coyne saw the first goal scored after 20 minutes when a sharp cross into the circle was intercepted by Coyne to open the scoring, giving her a first league goal of the season.
Northallerton's defence battled hard to stop Roseberry's Louise Green and Alison Blower, both determined to shine, and had good shots on target at the Northallerton keeper Sam Keeling which she successfully defended. Roseberry's captain Sarah McDonald pressed forward delivering the shot into the circle for Stephanie Davies to score Roseberry's second goal in the 30 minute.
The second half saw Roseberry in almost complete domination of Northallerton. After a game of ping pong in Northallerton's circle it was only a matter of time before Sarah McDonald scored her first goal after 41 minutes. Keeping the ball in Northallerton's half, Hannah Coyne grabbed her second eight minutes later.
In her eagerness to join the action after four years out through injury Roseberry conceded a Penalty Corner for having to many players on the field when Helen Milburn joined the play before the player she was replacing had left the field. Northallerton lined up, alas, the ball was played but the shot killed by Andrea Chapman playing a hard ball to keen eyed Jennifer Cornes for another drive into Northallerton's circle. After only two minutes on the pitch Susan Moore slotted in Roseberry's fifth and the match was sealed with a final goal from a short corner scored by McDonald.
Scorers: Hannah Coyne (2), Sarah McDonald (2), Susan Moore, Steph Davies.
Player of match: Hannah Chapman (Northallerton), Hannah Coyne (Roseberry).
Despite holding their own in the first half Norton went down 6-1 at Stokesley who opened the scoring with a Anne Weschenfelder goal. Norton found the equaliser with a goal from Jane Herriott but Stokesley's continued attacking paid off when Claire Richmond restored Stokesley lead to take them to half time. Stokesley pulled away in the second half with a hat-trick from Emma Thompson and a goal by Helen Waller.
