ORGANISERS of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal in Darlington and the surrounding areas have issued an urgent appeal for volunteers.
Volunteers are needed for a street collection on November 10 and 11 before the Remembrance Sunday service.
Last year the appeal, which will be launched this year on Wednesday by Darlington Mayor Councillor Dorothy Long, raised £28,556.
Lillian Wiegold, appeal organiser for Darlington, said: "If people can give an hour or two of their own time we would be very grateful."
This year's poppy appeal is in its 79th year. Anyone who can help as a volunteer or wants to take a tray of poppies should ring (01325) 313799
