A TEENAGER has been chosen to receive the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Award certificate for her outstanding contribution to her school.
Jenny Snow, 18, a sixth former at Darlington's Polam Hall School, was chosen for her commitment to the school, particularly the pupils who experience learning difficulties.
In the past three years she has been involved with a wide variety of pupils in the school, helping girls with numeracy and literacy, and those for whom English is not their first language.
Jenny, who would like a career in teaching, said: "I am really thrilled to have been given this certificate.
"It had never occurred to me that there was an award for helping people in your school, which I have enjoyed very much, particularly on the language side.
"I think the award is a great idea, and am happy that the school put me forward for it."
The national memorial award scheme was launched in April, to recognise the outstanding contribution made by many secondary students to their schools and communities.
Headteacher Helen Hamilton said: "Polam Hall School is very proud of Jenny's achievement and I will be presenting her with her certificate in front of the whole school on speech day."
