A CONFERENCE aimed at dispelling the myths surrounding food is being organised in the region by a university.
The University of Teesside is holding the event, entitled Functional Foods: Future Foods or Fashion Fad? at Tees Valley TEC, Queens Square, Middlesbrough, on October 31.
Aimed at highlighting the medicinal effects of foods available now and in the future, it will challenge people to take a closer look at products on supermarket shelves.
Julia MacFarlane, of the university's Food Technology Centre, said: "This conference will help people to understand the future of functional foods such as margarines that claim to reduce your cholesterol."
